Early Struggles with Teen Pregnancy
Sarah Jakes Roberts' journey is a testimony of transformation, marked by moments of deep crisis and divine intervention. At just 13, Sarah became pregnant, a reality that brought feelings of shame and disqualification. As she expressed, 'My perception after I got pregnant was that I was disqualified from favor, from being used.' This early experience set her on a path of seeking legitimacy, which led to an early marriage at 19 and a subsequent divorce by 22. The divorce, driven by 'multiple infractions' and safety concerns, left her feeling lost.
The Turning Point Moment
An incident of discovering her husband with another woman challenged her to confront her anger and recognize a destructive cycle. She packed up her children, realizing she couldn't afford to continue in anger without risking her freedom or her children's future. In a moment of divine humor, while preaching, her wig began to slip. Initially embarrassed, she sensed God saying, 'I want you just as you are.' This became a pivotal moment for embracing her authentic self.
Overcoming Shame Through Faith
Through these experiences, Sarah found healing and restoration in an intimate relationship with God. She shared, 'This really intimate relationship with God allowed me to encounter healing and love and restoration.' She learned that God's plan for her life was not canceled by her choices, but rather modified to include them. 'You were always gonna be a preacher,' she realized God had told her.
