A Comfortable Life Interrupted
At 18, I was just like any other high school senior, looking ahead to college and the life I had planned in Brentwood, Tennessee. But there was a stirring in my heart that wouldn't go away, a whisper that said, 'Follow me.' In December 2006, I took a short trip to Uganda and everything changed. The poverty was overwhelming, but what struck me most was the joy in the children's eyes, despite their circumstances.
God's Calling to Uganda
Jesus was at work in ways I could not ignore. I remember sitting under a tree, holding a little girl named Agnes as she told me about her dream of going to school. Her faith, despite having so little, moved me deeply. I felt God calling me to stay and help, but it seemed impossible. I thought, 'I'm only 18. What can I do?' Then I felt Jesus' words echoing in my heart: 'I have called you by name; you are mine.'
Trading Comfort for Ministry
Against all odds, I took a leap of faith and returned to Uganda, this time for a year. I started teaching at an orphanage, and what was supposed to be a temporary mission trip became the beginning of a new life. Jesus took my doubts and used them to fuel a fire for His work. In 2008, I founded Amazima Ministries, which means 'truth' in Luganda, to provide education and meals to hundreds of children.
Life Transformed by Obedience
Looking back, I see how Jesus transformed my plans for comfort and ease into a life filled with purpose and love. It was never about what I could do, but about what He wanted to do through me. All glory to Jesus, who took a simple 'yes' and turned it into a movement of love and service.
