Early Conversion
Reinhard Bonnke, born in 1940 in KΓΆnigsberg, Germany, grew up in a family that deeply valued faith. At just nine years old, he embraced Christianity after his mother shared a profound insight into sin and redemption. This early conversion experience set the stage for a life of remarkable evangelistic work. At the age of ten, he sensed a divine calling to Africa, an inner conviction that would later guide his life's mission.
A Transformative Vision
Bonnke's journey continued through his studies at The Bible College of Wales, where he was inspired by the director, Samuel Rees Howells. His encounter with evangelist George Jeffreys in London further fueled his passion. By 1967, Bonnke moved to Lesotho, Africa, to start his ministry, initially facing challenges and modest successes.
A transformative moment came through a recurring dream, where Bonnke saw a map of Africa being washed in blood. He heard a clear message: 'Africa Shall Be Saved.' This vision, though initially doubted, became the cornerstone of his ministry strategy, prompting him to shift towards large-scale evangelism.
Christ for All Nations
In 1974, Bonnke founded Christ for All Nations (CfaN) and began holding events that drew thousands. His proclamation, 'All of Africa shall be saved, from Cape Town to Cairo,' became a rallying cry. Despite challenges such as the apartheid system and violent opposition in Nigeria, Bonnke's ministry continued to expand. His crusades became known for miraculous healings and unprecedented numbers of conversions, with a single service in Lagos, Nigeria, reportedly attended by 1.6 million people.
A Remarkable Legacy
By the time of his death in 2019, Bonnke's legacy included preaching to over 79 million people and documenting millions of decisions for Christ. His life exemplified a commitment to faith that transcended difficulties, igniting a movement that transformed countless lives.
