A Feared Voodoo Priest
In a small community near the Mission Possible compound in Haiti, Jacques was known as a formidable voodoo priest, feared by many. Once described as a 'killing machine,' Jacques wielded his influence through rituals intended to harm others. However, his life took a turn on a day marked by divine intervention.
A Message of Love
Bill Rudge, a missionary visiting Haiti for the first time, encountered Jacques at a pivotal moment. Jacques was preparing for a voodoo ceremony, for which he had been paid thirty-five dollars. Bill shared his testimony with Jacques, revealing to him that the spirits he invoked were not benign but malevolent. Bettie, the director of Mission Possible, approached Jacques with a simple yet profound message: 'Jesus loves you!'
Renouncing the Old Life
This encounter ignited a transformation in Jacques. He decided to abandon his life as a voodoo priest, even refusing to conduct the ceremony he had been paid for, vowing to return the money. In a powerful act of renunciation, Jacques gathered his voodoo items and set them ablaze, symbolizing his commitment to his new faith in Jesus Christ.
A New Life in Christ
Following his conversion, Jacques became an active member of the Christian community, sharing his story with others and eventually marrying. His journey from fear and manipulation to peace and purpose stands as a testament to the power of Jesus to change hearts and lives.
The story of Jacques is not just one of individual transformation but also reflects a broader movement in Haiti, where many have turned from voodoo to embrace Christianity, especially in the wake of the 2010 earthquake. Through the work of missionaries and local believers, the message of Jesus continues to bring hope and change to the people of Haiti.
