The Descent into Addiction
Jason Brown grew up in a nurturing middle-class family, a bright student with a promising future. However, at the age of 15, Jason encountered a dangerous path, discovering alcohol and marijuana. This marked the beginning of a long struggle with addiction, one that would consume his life for over two decades. He recalls, "I drank every day, from 15 to 37." Despite his struggles, Jason managed to become a successful professional, even contributing to developing touch technology for Apple's first iPhone. Yet, the grip of addiction tightened further when he began using methamphetamines.
Seeking Help at Rock Bottom
As his life spiraled out of control, Jason lost his career, home, and retirement, finding himself living in a camper at his father's shop. It was a moment of realization that led him to seek help. "I thought I was going to come down here, go to rehab, and get cured," he admitted, reflecting on his decision to join CORE, a recovery program.
Faith-Based Recovery Through CORE
CORE became a pivotal turning point for Jason, offering not just a path to sobriety but also a renewed relationship with God. "I didn't have a relationship with God, and CORE led me to that," he shared. Through the 12-step program, Jason learned to process and deal with everyday problems, finding strength in his faith and community. Rising at 4:00 a.m. every day, he devoted himself to Bible study and prayer, grounding his recovery in spirituality.
Life Transformed by Redemption
Today, Jason's life is transformed. He works at EnerSys/Northstar, has restored his family bonds, and actively helps others on their recovery journeys. His involvement in church and commitment to service reflect a profound change, a testament to the power of faith and community in overcoming addiction. "I still show up every week. This is my home church, where I belong. It's still home," Jason says, embodying a life redefined by hope and redemption.
