A One-Way Ticket
In 1966, a young British woman named Jackie Pullinger embarked on a remarkable journey to Hong Kong. At 22, Jackie felt a divine calling to serve those in need, despite facing rejections from several missionary organizations. With a one-way ticket and a heart full of faith, she arrived in the notorious Kowloon Walled City, an area plagued by crime and drug addiction. Jackie once shared, 'I went to Hong Kong because I couldn't find anywhere else to go. I wanted to go to Africa, but nobody wanted me.'
Into the Walled City
The Walled City was a place of desperation and chaos, yet Jackie saw an opportunity to bring hope. She believed God wanted her to have 'soft hearts and hard feet,' and she was determined to follow this path.
Miraculous Healings
As she began her work, Jackie witnessed the miraculous transformation of heroin addicts who, through prayer and the baptism of the Holy Spirit, overcame their addictions without experiencing withdrawal symptoms. This was not a result of luck or human effort; it was Jesus intervening in their lives.
Setting the Captives Free
Jackie's passion for helping others led to the establishment of the St. Stephen's Society, an organization dedicated to serving the marginalized. She expressed her joy in seeing people liberated, stating, 'I love to see people set free and living their lives as they were created to live.' Her work in Hong Kong has left a lasting impact, and her story is a testament to the power of faith and divine intervention. Jackie gave all the glory to God, recognizing that it was through His guidance and strength that she could make a difference in the lives of so many.
