The Most Lawless Place on Earth
When Jackie Pullinger arrived in Hong Kong's Walled City in 1966, she was a 22-year-old with no missionary training and no plan—just a sense that God had sent her.
The Walled City was the most lawless place on earth: a maze of cramped buildings controlled by triads, filled with heroin addicts, prostitutes, and criminals. Police didn't dare enter.
Fasting and Praying in Tongues
For her first few years, Jackie saw little fruit. Then she discovered the power of praying in tongues combined with fasting.
"I began to fast one day a week," she recalled, "and pray in tongues for 15 minutes every day. That's when things started to change."
No Withdrawal, Just Freedom
Drug addicts who had tried every rehabilitation program began to be delivered—painlessly, supernaturally. Men who had been on heroin for 20 years walked away free.
"We would pray over them in tongues, and they would simply stop craving drugs," Jackie wrote. "No withdrawal. No cold turkey. Just freedom."
Over 50 years of ministry, thousands of addicts were delivered through her simple method: fasting, praying in tongues, and trusting Jesus.
"I didn't have a strategy," Jackie says. "I just had a God who answers prayer."
