Barracks 28
In Ravensbrück concentration camp, Corrie ten Boom and her sister Betsie were placed in Barracks 28—a place so infested with fleas that even the guards refused to enter.
At first, Corrie complained bitterly about the fleas. But Betsie reminded her of 1 Thessalonians 5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances."
"Thank God for fleas?" Corrie protested. "Betsie, there's no way even God can make me grateful for a flea."
But Betsie was insistent, so they prayed and thanked God—even for the fleas.
A Secret Church
As weeks passed, something remarkable happened. The women in Barracks 28 were able to hold Bible studies, pray openly, and share the gospel freely. The guards never once entered to stop them.
The Curse Became a Covering
It wasn't until later that they discovered why: the guards refused to enter the barracks because of the flea infestation.
God had used the very fleas that tormented them to protect their secret church. What seemed like a curse became their covering.
