Leif Hetland was a respected Baptist pastor in Norway. He preached well. His church grew. By external measures, his ministry was successful. But internally, fear ran everything.
A Pastor Controlled by Fear
It was not the kind of fear people could see. It was structural — woven into every decision, every sermon, every relationship. Fear of failure. Fear of rejection. Fear of not being enough. He preached about God's love every Sunday while his own internal operating system ran on anxiety.
He tried harder. Studied more. Prayed more — the kind of prayer that sounds devout but is really just religious striving. Nothing shifted. The fear was not a surface problem. It was a root.
The Baptism That Changed Everything
Through a series of encounters, Hetland experienced what he calls a "baptism of love" — not a theological concept but a tangible encounter with the Holy Spirit. The Father's love went to the deepest roots of fear in his life and dismantled them.
"Perfect love cast out fear," he says, quoting 1 John 4:18. "Not my understanding of love. His actual love — poured out by the Holy Spirit. I stopped feeling pressure and started feeling His pleasure."
The transformation was not gradual. It was foundational. The fear that had controlled his ministry, his relationships, and his identity was replaced by a security he had never known.
From Norway to the Nations
What followed was a ministry that has taken Hetland into some of the most spiritually dark regions on earth — the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa. Through Global Mission Awareness, he has seen over one million people come to faith in Jesus, accompanied by documented healings and deliverances.
His approach is rooted in what happened to him: the Holy Spirit does not just empower people for ministry. He heals the minister first. The freedom Hetland walks in today is not performance. It is the overflow of someone who encountered perfect love and was never the same.
The Holy Spirit Heals the Hidden Things
Hetland's story is important because it addresses a kind of bondage that does not look like bondage. Fear disguised as responsibility. Anxiety dressed up as diligence. The Holy Spirit sees through the disguise.
If fear is your operating system — even if no one else can see it — the Holy Spirit specialises in root-level transformation. He does not manage your fear. He replaces it with love. And once that exchange happens, everything changes.
