Growing Up Under Persecution
Brother Yun, born Liu Zhenying in 1958 in Henan, China, endured the harshness of poverty and famine as a young boy. During China's tumultuous Cultural Revolution, Bibles were scarce, yet his family maintained their faith. His mother, leading a small church in secret, remembered scriptures by heart, but the absence of a physical Bible was deeply felt.
A Father's Miraculous Healing
In 1974, a dramatic turning point came when Yun's father fell gravely ill, diagnosed with terminal cancer. Faced with despair, Yun's mother fervently prayed to Jesus for a miracle. Her prayers were answered with the miraculous healing of her husband, which sparked a revival within the family. Inspired by this divine intervention, Yun dedicated himself to God and longed for a Bible of his own. His yearning to know God's words and share them with others led him to memorize the book of Acts.
The Heavenly Man
At age 17, Yun began his ministry, preaching the Gospel with fervor. Despite the political climate, where allegiance to state-controlled religious bodies was expected, Yun remained steadfast in his faith and ministry. This commitment led to multiple arrests and severe persecution. During interrogations, he famously declared himself as the 'Heavenly Man' to protect the identities of fellow Christians.
Walking Out of Prison
One of the most astonishing episodes in Yun's life occurred during his imprisonment in 1997. Imprisoned with both legs broken, he received a divine message to leave. Against all odds, Yun walked out of the maximum-security prison, unnoticed until five minutes after his escape. This miraculous deliverance was a testament to his unwavering faith.
After fleeing to Germany, Brother Yun became a prominent figure in the international Christian community, actively involved in the Back to Jerusalem Movement. His story, documented in 'The Heavenly Man', continues to inspire many around the world. Brother Yun's life underscores that it is not human strength that changes the world, but the power of Jesus working through those who trust in Him.
